Students at UW-Madison hold rally for Gaza Monday

MADISON (WKOW) -- Students at UW-Madison are protesting Monday over the ongoing struggle in the Middle East. The rally is organized by Students for Justice in Palestine and the Young Democratic Socailists of America at UW.

Students say they are protesting the "ongoing genocide and Zionist war crimes in Gaza, and against the new wave of student repression across the country." The "Apartheid Wall" rally marks the end of SJP's Annual Week of Solidarity highlighting stories of Palestine.

The protest started Monday morning at Library Mall.

Students could be heard chanting,"From Madison to Palestine, occupation is a crime" and "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free."

Others could be seen setting up tents on campus around 9:50 a.m.

UW-Madison's dean of students has warned there will be consequences should the protest break campus policies.

"If you choose to protest, please be cognizant of the relevant rules and limitations," an email said. "We support your right to protest within these limitations. Failing to abide by these limitations can and will have consequences, both within our code of student conduct and more broadly under Wisconsin law."
